Well, I decided to do a second blog today. I have been busy watching 3 little sweet bluebirds. It is so amazing to see the mother and father bird take turns going out in search of worms and grubs for them. I also have noticed that the father bird brings them earthworms and the mother bird chooses grubs for them. I wonder why?
Then there is a major crow problem we are having. DH took the BB gun to scare one out of the corn and accidently hit the bird and injured it so then had to come back inside and load up the big gun to put it out quickly. Then we had 6 vultures come down and eat the crow. Maybe we should get a scarecrow. I wonder if they really work or is that just a old wives tale?
Now we are having a mockingbird problem which needs to be resolved quickly. I have been reading how territorial mocking birds are and they do a fine job scaring the crows away if they are around..but when they are not around..we have a crow problem. It is like they know corn will be growing even thought the corn is only about 16″ tall.
The mocking birds have pretty much tarnished off all our strawberries. That and they have been trying to kill the baby blue birds when the mother and father are gone from the birdhouse. I may have to keep the BB gun out this weekend.
OK, now we also have the king bird..I love the fact that King birds are also very territorial and this one perches on our small apple tree just waiting for any other bird to enter the garden. It doesn’t stay long though and as soon as it flies back to its home..the mockingbird takes over. The King birds are really neat though because they eat dozens of flies each day and we have more then the average share down here.
Now we move on to the bunnies. Dozens and dozens of bunnies. I have never seen so many in my life. They have there litters under our shed and then munch each evening in our garden beds. They also play tag and the kids love going outside and watching them…so they do have there good points. They are almost domesticated and you can walk up to them pretty close before they make there getaway.
So much wildlife..
